Rally for Religious Freedom, Friday, June 8, noon, San Francisco.
Stand up for our religious freedom by pushing back against the new mandate from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) which requires that all employers provide free contraceptives, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs through their health plans, even in violation of their consciences.  Rallies will be held nationwide.  Our nearest rally is at the HHS building, 90 Seventh Street, San Francisco, two blocks from the Civic Center BART station.  Bishop Cordileone supports this rally.  For more information: http://standupforreligiousfreedom.com

Catholic Social Teaching:
"The ultimate injustice is for a person or group to be treated actively or abandoned passively as if they were nonmembers of the human race. To treat people this way is effectively to say they simply do not count as human beings."

Bishop Cordileone Calls All Catholic Voters to Write Congress, US President.
“I therefore call on all of you, our good people in the Diocese of Oakland, to write to your congressional representatives and urge them to pass legislation to reverse this [HHS] mandate. I also ask you to contact President Obama and encourage him to continue to be open to putting into place robust protections of religious liberty for faith-based health, educational and social service organizations. The contact information to do this may be found on the Diocese home page at www.oakdiocese.org

Heaven and Earth are Full of Your Glory.
Roman Catholic bishops and the United Methodist church recently issued a joint statement on the Eucharist and Ecology: “We call both Methodists and Catholics to practice stewardship of creation … Eucharistic renewal and environmental responsibility are intrinsically linked … A Christian response to the ecological crisis … is a sense of wonder before God’s gift of creation.”  Read more at: http://tinyurl.com/FullofYourGlory

The U.S. bishops have issued a strong call to action for all Catholics to defend religious liberty in the 13-page proclamation “Our First, Most Cherished Freedom”. The bishops call for “A Fortnight for Freedom,” the two-week period from June 21 to July 4—where “all the energies the Catholic community can muster” are focused on prayer, study, catechesis, public action and special events revolving around Religious Liberty. Contact Trish Spindler, tspindler@cacatholic.org, for more information.  Read the proclamation at: http://tinyurl.com/ActForReligiousLiberty

Care for God’s Creation and poor people by reducing your carbon footprint
 (http://catholicclimatecovenant.org):
Organize an environmental awareness day at your parish or school.  Plant a garden and start a compost pile.  Eat less meat: the UN concludes that “the livestock sector emerges as one of the top two or three most significant contributors to the most serious environmental problems,” including climate change. Dry your clothes outdoors when possible and use the dryer less.

The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they had everything in common.  With great power the apostles bore witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great favor was accorded them all.  There was no needy person among them, for those who owned property or houses would sell them, bring the proceeds of the sale, and put them at the feet of the apostles, and they were distributed to each according to need.  -- Acts 4:32-35
