Helping Livermore Seniors for Over Forty Years

Did you know?  St. Michael’s Church is one of the founding members of Interfaith Housing, Inc., in Livermore.  Interfaith Housing provides low and very low income housing for seniors in our community. 

Interfaith Housing was established in the early 1970’s and is currently sponsored by eight congregations, St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, Congregation Beth Emek, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Asbury United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Unitarian Universalist Church and St. Michael’s Church. 

The first project developed was Hillcrest Gardens located at 550 Hillcrest Avenue.  Hillcrest Gardens will be celebrating its 40th anniversary since first opening in 1972.  Two additional projects have been developed by Interfaith Housing, Vineyard Village  located at 3700 Pacific Avenue and the newest  Arbor Vista located at 1300 South Livermore Avenue.  These three developments  provide over 200 apartments for low income seniors.  Rents for most residents is limited to no more than a third of their income.  Some of our current residents are members of St.Michael’s. 

The governing board for Interfaith Housing consists of two representatives from each sponsoring congregation.  St. Michael’s representatives are Jennifer Thaete, who is also currently a member of St. Michael’s Parish Council, and Randall Schlientz.   The all volunteer board and the sponsoring congregations have provided quality and supportive housing for our seniors for the past forty years.  In order to insure that Interfaith Housing can continue to grow and maintain quality housing for low income seniors, the Board of Directors hired a Management Firm, American Baptist Homes of the West (ABHOW), to oversee the operations of our current developments and to assist in possible future developments.
